NASA moon mission: how to watch NASA’s Artemis 1 rocket launch on August 29th

August 29th will see NASA launch its next-generation rocket to the moon, and so can you by following this guide on how to watch the NASA moon mission. Artemis 1 (or Artimis I) is the first planned uncrewed test in NASA’s Artemis programme. The flight will launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida – first used in the first-ever Moon landing rocket’s launch, the Saturn V, on November 9th, 1967. 

The upcoming moon mission includes NASA’s most powerful rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS), a 98-meter-tall aircraft, and NASA’s next-generation capsule, the Orion. NASA will use its Sound Suppressing System on the launch pad to reduce the launch sound of this power-loaded rocket.

While the Artemis 1 mission won’t include any humans on the rocket, NASA plans an Artemis 2 mission and Artemis 3 mission by 2025, taking the same route to the moon with humans onboard (if mission 1 is successful). The Monday Artemis 1 mission is a flight test and principle checks for Artemis 2 and Artemis 3 endeavours.

Recent reports suggested that the Artemis 1 mission might be delayed, citing the weather criteria for a flawless launch. However, a blog post from NASA says the weather’s 70 percent favourable and gives a green signal for the Artemis 1 mission.  

How to watch the NASA moon rocket launch

If you can’t visit the Space Coast to witness the launch in real life, you can watch it from the comfort of your home. The Artemis 1 mission from Kennedy Space Center is scheduled for 6:03 PM (IST) on Monday, August 29th, and the watch window will stay open for two hours.
