Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya got engaged in a ceremony in Hyderabad in January 2017, and tied the knot in Goa as per Hindu rituals on October 6 that year and then according to Christian customs the following day. They announced their separation via a joint statement on October 2, 2021. Fans had previously also decoded his arm tattoo to be his and Samantha’s wedding date– 6-10-17.
Chaitanya spoke about his tattoo as he narrated his crazy fan encounters in a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble. The actor said, “I met a few fans who’ve tattooed like my name and all that and they’ve imitated this tattoo (gesturing to his forearm). This is not something you would want to imitate. It’s the day I got married. So I won’t want the fans to put that. I feel really bad when they tattoo these things. It’s like ‘don’t, things might just change. I can change the tattoo’.”
Asked if he has actually thought about changing the tattoo, the actor said, “No I haven’t thought about it, it’s fine.” He was also asked what he would do if he runs into ex-wife Samantha today, and he replied, “Say hi, give her a hug.”
Chaitanya’s arm tattoo also carries two arrows, which he had gotten together with Samantha. Explaining their matching tattoos, Samantha had shared on Instagram, “My tattoo means create your own reality. Chay and I got it together. It’s really special for us”. Samantha had also got ‘Chay’ inked on the right side of her rib. In addition, she has a tattoo reading YMC below the nape of her neck. YMC are the initials of Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), her debut film, which featured her opposite Naga Chaitanya and also marked the beginning of their relationship.
Chaitanya will soon be making his Bollywood debut with Laal Singh Chaddha. The Advait Chandan directorial, which is an adaptation of Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump, stars Aamir Khan in the title role and Chaitanya as his military friend Balaraju. The film, which also features Kareena Kapoor and Mona Singh, is scheduled for theatrical release on August 11.
