Municipal Corporation of Delhi adopts central scheme at all clinics to eliminate TB

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at its hospitals and healthcare centres to contribute to the elimination of the disease by 2025.

“MCD is consistently working towards TB elimination, and treating 27,694 TB patients through its 12 health facilities. In 2021, 74,551 TB cases were identified in the national capital, out of which 36,745 cases were treated in the MCD chest clinics. Out of the 36,745 patients, 28,552 cases were treated successfully,” stated the civic body.

Fifty-five patients, being treated by MCD, have also been registered under the Nikshay Mitra project of the Centre, which enables people to adopt TB patients and take care of their nutrition and medical requirements.

“The target is to ensure additional diagnostic, nutritional and vocational support. The initiative encourages elected representatives, corporates, NGOs and individuals to come forward as donors to help the patients complete their journey towards recovery,” said a civic official.

MCD has also rolled out dedicated OPD desks for over 50,000 sanitation workers and their families at its 10 major hospitals. The facility was created in less than a month. “We have dedicated a general physician in each hospital who will attend to sanitation workers and their family members during OPD timings daily. Based on the diagnosis, they will be referred to expert doctors in the hospital. The idea is to save their time and give them treatment on priority,” said an MCD official.
