NEW DELHI: (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani and Adani Group founder Gautam Adani have raced past Chinese billionaires and tech tycoons like Jack Ma and Zhong Shanshan in global wealth rankings, making them Asia’s richest businesspersons.
According to data from Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani’s wealth has soared over $84 billion, making him the 12th richest person on the planet. Ambani has added $7.62 billion in 2021 so far.
Adani’s wealth, on the other hand, has increased to $77 billion, registering a spike of $43.2 billion in 2021 so far. Adani is the 14th richest man, according to Bloomberg data.
Ambani and Adani have received a boost from stock rallies. Nifty50 index has jumped 13 per cent in 2021 so far. Shares of Reliance Industries are up by 12 per cent to Rs 2,215.80 year-to-date, whereas Reliance Industrial Infrastructure (RIIL) and Network 18 Media & Investments have surged between 40 and 45 per cent.
Among Adani Group companies, shares of Adani Total Gas has rallied 335 per cent to Rs 1,625.8 on June 11 to Rs 374.9 on January 1, 2021. Adani Transmission has soared 264 per cent and Adani Enterprises has advanced 235 per cent in 2021. Adani Power is also up by 200 per cent, followed by Adani Ports (74 per cent) and Adani Green (17 per cent).
Wipro’s Azim Premji (42nd), HCL Technologies’ Shiv Nadar (72nd), Lakshmi Mittal (88th) are other key names featuring among the top 100 wealthiest people in the list.
Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest person, with a net worth of $194 billion. He is followed by LVMH Chief Executive Bernard Arnault, having riches worth S173 billion. With a fortune over $169 billion, Tesla’s boss Elon Musk is third in the list.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates ($145 billion) and Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg ($124 billion) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively on the list. Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Warren Buffet are other centibillionaires on the list.
Barring France’s Arnualt and Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, all others above Ambani on the list are Americans.
Zhong Shanshan, founder of the Nongfu Spring beverage company and owner of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy, is the richest Chinese on the list. His wealth has decreased $7 billion in 2021 to $71.2.
Tencent founder and CEO Ma Huateng (21st), Alibaba’s Jack Ma (27th), founder of ByteDance Zhang Yiming (32nd) and e-commerce mogul Colin Huang (33rd) are other Chinese entrepreneurs featuring on the Bloomberg list.
