BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The second day of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament wrapped up Friday at South Warren High School.
Top-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) got the day started with a 3-1 victory over fourth-seeded Tennessee Southern to advance to Saturday’s winner’s bracket final at 4 p.m. CT. Third-seeded Lindsey Wilson punched its ticket to the winner’s bracket final with a 7-1 victory over Campbellsville.
Saturday gets underway with Tennessee Southern taking on sixth-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) in an elimination game at 11 a.m. CT. Campbellsville and fifth-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) play at 1:30 p,m, CT. Saturday wraps up with the winners of the Tennessee Southern/Georgetown game and Campbellsville/Bethel game at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Freed-Hardeman vs. Tennessee Southern
The Firehawks (26-24) missed an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the first. Tennessee Southern had the bases loaded. Brittany Adair was able to strike out the next two batters to end the Firehawk threat. The Lions (46-3) struck first in the bottom of the first on a Caitlin Mitchell single to make it 1-0.
Tennessee Southern was unable to capitalize with runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the fourth. After back-to-back walks to start the inning, Freed-Hardeman got the next three batters out. The Lions increased their lead to 2-0 scoring on an error in the bottom of the fourth. Freed-Hardeman increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a Sophie Dunavant sacrifice fly. Tennessee Southern got on the board in the sixth on a Bree Brady solo home run.
Adair picked up the win for the Lions pitching a complete-game allowing one run, one hit, four walk and striking out 10. Four different Lions recorded a hit in the victory.
Samantha King pitched four innings allowing three hits and two runs with one earned.
Campbellsville vs. Lindsey Wilson
The Blue Raiders (37-14) struck first in the top of the first scoring three runs. Mikayla Marquez led off the inning with a single then stole second. Makea-Al Kaluau then drove in Marquez with a single into left field. Alexis Garayzar drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Ellie Derrick made it 3-0 with a double. Derrick drove in her second run of the game in the third inning to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead 4-0.
After back-to-back groundouts in the top of the fourth, the Blue Raiders then got their next two runners on. Kylie Brown then increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 6-0 on a 2-RBI single into left field. The Blue Raiders added another run in the seventh on Derrick’s third RBI. Campbellsville scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Riley Hurst RBI single.
Emily Boin got the win for the Blue Raiders pitching all seven innings allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight. Derrick and Brown each recorded three hits for Lindsey Wilson while Kaluau added two.
