MSC Baseball Opening Round Day Three Recap

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two more teams punched their tickets to the final site on day three of the MSC Baseball Opening Round.

Cumberlands (Ky.) took the series over Wilberforce with a 25-3 victory over Wilberforce (Ohio). Thomas More (Ky.) also advanced to Bowling Green with a 5-4 victory over Bethel. Pikeville took game one of the series against Tennessee Southern 13-5.

Cumberlands vs. Wilberforce

The Patriots got off to a hot start scoring eight runs in the first innings. Cumberlands added four more runs in the third inning and eight runs in the fourth. Wilberforce got on the board in the fifth with two runs. The Patriots scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and both teams added a run in the sixth before the run rule was enforced.

Thomas More vs. Bethel

Bethel struck first in the second inning scoring a run. Thomas More took the lead in the third inning scoring two runs. The Saints added to their lead in the fourth with a run. Bethel scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings as they took a 4-3 lead. Thomas More scored two runs in the home half of the seventh to get the 5-4 lead.

Pikeville vs. Tennessee Southern

The two teams each scored three runs in the first inning. Pikeville took the lead in the second with two runs and added three runs in the third. The Bears tacked on another run in the top of the fifth. Pikeville scored three runs in the top of the seventh while the Firehawks scored two in the bottom of the inning. The Bears added one more run in the ninth.
