Motorola could be the first to bring a 200MP camera phone in the world – Smartprix

Motorola is said to be prepping to win the title of the world’s first phone with a 200MP camera sensor. This particular Moto phone whose name is still behind curtains could also wield the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. It is expected to debut in the first half of 2022.

The revelation comes from the popular tipster Ice Universe who also says Xiaomi and Samsung would follow Motorola in adopting the 200MP camera. These phones could arrive later in the second half of 2022 and by 2023 respectively.

If true, this Motorola phone would be employing Samsung’s recently introduced 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor. The HP1 sensor was launched back in September without revealing the name of the device it will be equipped in first.

While there is no hint for Moto’s device name that could get the honour of boasting the colossal 200MP camera sensor, speculations suggest that could be Moto Edge X which is expected to launch in China. The phone could be rebranded as Motorola Edge 30 Ultra in the global market.

Samsung 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor 

The ISOCELL HP1 sensor sports ChameleonCell technology that uses 2×2, 4×4, or a full-pixel layout according to the lighting conditions. The sensor has a 0.64μm pixel size with an effective resolution of 16,384 x 12,288p. The 2×2 binning method it uses is meant to deliver output in a good light whereas the 4×4 binning method aims to work in low light conditions.
