Moto Edge 30 vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Realme GT Neo3 performance comparison| 91mobiles.com

The recently-revealed Nothing Phone 1 (review) is among the latest smartphones to enter India’s flourishing smartphone market. Priced starting Rs 31,999, the device goes up against the OnePlus Nord 2T (review). The chipset inside the Nothing Phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+, while MediaTek’s new Dimensity 1,300 SoC can be found in the Nord 2T. The Moto Edge 30 is the only other phone so far that comes powered by the Snapdragon 778G+.

In this performance comparison, I will be placing the Edge 30 against the Nord 2T and, for good measure, also including the Realme GT Neo3 which has the Dimensity 8100 SoC underneath the hood. From the benchmark numbers and comparisons, a general idea can be obtained about the SD 778G+’ processing capabilities. Right then, let’s get into some benchmark numbers and gaming performances from each device.

Motorola Edge 30 design

Talking first a bit about each chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ is an octa-core SoC with a Cortex A78 spinning at 2.4GHz while three others are clocked at 2.2GHz. There are also four efficiency Cortex A55 CPUs running at 1.9GHz. On the MediaTek Dimensity 1300, there are four A78 CPUs of which one spins at 3GHz and the rest at 2.6GHz, while the efficiency A55 CPUs are capped at 2GHz. Lastly, the Dimensity 8100 has four Cortex A78 performance cores clocked at 2.85GHz, and four efficiency A55 cores at 2.0GHz.

Geekbench 5

From L to R – Moto Edge 30, OnePlus Nord 2T, and Realme GT Neo3

On Geekbench 5, the popular benchmarking tool that measures single-core and multi-core performance, the Moto Edge 30 got results of 748 and 2,608 respectively. The OnePlus Nord 2T’s MediaTek Dimensity 1300 is able to churn out 850 and 3,088 on the same test while the Realme GT Neo3 lords over the other two with scores of 947 and 4041. In terms of gains seen on the single core results between the three phones, the Dimensity 8100 on the Neo3 performed about 22 percent better than the Edge 30. That number jumps up to 36 percent when comparing multi-core results while the Nord 2T is about 16 percent better than the Edge 30 in the same test.

Antutu V9

Antutu provides a more detailed look into a smartphone’s performance by taking into consideration a few other variables like GPU, memory, and UI capabilities. The Moto Edge 30 falls just short of the 600,000 mark on the synthetic test with an overall score of 593,521. On the OnePlus Nord 2T, the result is better at 692,758 while the GT Neo3 brings in a score of 826,688. One can also see that out of the three, Moto Edge 30 definitely ran a bit cooler at just four degrees gained while the Neo3’s temperature rose by 6.4 degrees. Between the Edge 30 and OnePlus Nord 2T, the overall gain in performance is about 15 percent, which is the same as the Geekbench 5 multi-core result. The GT Neo3 is ahead of the Edge 30 by nearly 30 percent.

CPU Throttle test

It’s equally important for a smartphone to maintain a sizeable amount of its peak performance under sustained load. This is where the CPU Throttle benchmark comes in to give a graphical representation of how much throttling is going on during an intensive and long-lasting task. The Moto Edge 30 cuts down its peak performance to 77 percent during a 30-minute run while the temperature shot up to 50 degrees. On the OnePlus Nord 2T, the story is slightly worse off with peak performance capped at 61 percent while the Neo3 is able to sustain a healthy 80 percent of its peak performance. Goes to show that even though the Nord 2T is a better overall performer than the Edge 30, it has trouble maintaining it.

3DMark WildLife Extreme Stress test

3DMark’s WildLife Extreme Stress benchmark can give a reasonably good insight into how well the GPU can handle a sustained load over time. A 20-minute run simulates a graphically-intensive title which is looped continuously to get a maximum and minimum loop score. The lower the difference between these two results, the better your chipset’s stability. For the Moto Edge 30, the scores were 764 and 743 respectively, which earns the device respectable stability of 97.3 percent. On the OnePlus Nord 2T, the maximum loop score is higher at 1,330 but with the lowest score dropping to 867, the phone’s stability is 65.2 percent. Lastly, there is Realme GT Neo3, which has maximum loop score of 1,447 while the stability is at 80.9 percent. In this comparison as well, the Edge 30, while having lower performance, can maintain it more effectively than the Nord 2T.

BGMI gaming

From T to B – Moto Edge 30, OnePlus Nord 2T, and Realme GT Neo3

Talking about heavy-duty gaming, India’s most popular battle royale shooter, BGMI, is definitely capable of bringing even the most performance-heavy phones to their knees. All three phones can run the game at Smooth graphics and Extreme (60fps) frame rate. For parity, I set the devices to Ultra (45fps) frame rate and HDR graphics, the latter being the highest possible setting for each device. The Moto Edge 30 gains 10 degrees and loses 12 percent battery after a 30-minute session. For the Nord 2T, the temperature gain was 12 degrees and battery loss was 11 percent. Lastly, the Realme GT Neo3 got hotter by 9 degrees and lost 8 percent battery.

Verdict

Taking a gander at the scores provided by various benchmarking results, it’s apparent that the Moto Edge 30, harbouring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC, is not far behind the Dimensity 1300 SoC. The Edge 30 can definitely hold more of its peak performance under sustained load. Our review of the Nothing Phone 1 also produced similar benchmark numbers as the Edge 30. It can be assumed that buyers of Nothing Phone 1 and Moto Edge 30  can expect decent performance levels from their devices without having to worry about throttling. However, things are trickier for the top-end 12GB RAM variant of the Nothing Phone 1 retails at Rs 37,999. The pricing brings it close to the Realme GT Neo3, and the latter has a sizeable performance jump over the former.
