Mohun Bagan retain ISL-winning coach Juan Ferrando | Football News – Times of India
Ferrando, who took charge of the team in December 2021, replacing Antonio Lopez Habas, led the club to their maiden Indian Super League (ISL) title with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Bengaluru FC.
“We are thrilled to extend Juan Ferrando’s contract. He has guided us to win the ISL Trophy, and we are eager to achieve more success with him,” stated Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG), in a Twitter announcement.
Heading into the upcoming season, Ferrando expressed his commitment to the defending champions and acknowledged the high expectations from the fans.
“We will give our best in the upcoming season. Since we are the defending champions, expectations from the fans are high,” said the Spanish coach in a statement.
He also emphasised the club’s goal of continuous improvement and the pursuit of winning trophies.
“The ethos of the club is to improve each season in the quest of winning trophies. While we’ll obviously try to defend our ISL title, we will also try to get better results in the AFC Cup.”
The team’s focus will extend to making an impact in the AFC Cup, where they have reached the inter-zonal semifinals in the past two seasons.
Previously known as ATK Mohun Bagan following the merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan ahead of the 2020-21 ISL season, the team boasts three ISL titles from ATK’s previous successes.
MBSG will kick off their pre-season training on July 15, with plans to field a development squad in the upcoming Calcutta Football League later this month.
