Mindy Kaling takes in Jaipur. Is she scouting locations for upcoming rom-com with Priyanka Chopra?

On Sunday, Mindy Kaling revealed that she was in the ‘pink city’ of Jaipur, taking in the sights. The trip might also be work-related as the actor-producer may be scouting locations for her upcoming wedding film with actor Priyanka Chopra, which was announced in 2019. The writer of the untitled rom-com, Dan Goor, has also accompanied Mindy on the trip. The film, produced by Universal Pictures, was along the lines of the films Crazy Rich Asians and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Mindy put up several photos of herself in Jaipur on Instagram and simply captioned her post, “The Pink City”. Director Nisha Ganatra commented on her post, “I love that fort so much! It’s beautiful!” Actor Poorna Jagannathan wrote, “Pretty in Pink.” Several others dropped red heart emojis in the comments section. Some keen-eyed fans asked if she was working on the rom-com with Priyanka. The film’s co-writer Dan is seated next to Mindy in one of her photos shared in her post.

Last year, it was revealed that Mindy and Priyanka will play cousins in the film, which is set around an Indian wedding. Mindy would be playing an Indian-American, while Priyanka would play her cousin, born and raised in India. Their characters would also be from different cultures within India. In an interview with Forbes in 2022, Mindy had spoken about the ‘diverse representation of the Asian experience in her projects’. She had said, “We’re really proud of it, we show South Asian Americans that are from Southern India. Then we show a Muslim Indian girl. Culturally we see how they’re different from each other. The Asian experience is not a monolith. Why would people necessarily know that if they don’t have shows that explain and explore that difference?”

She added, “I have this movie with Priyanka Chopra, she’s Punjabi Indian from India and I’m an Indian American Bengali girl from the East Coast. It’s so different and that’s what makes our dynamic so fun together.” Mindy recently voiced the character of Velma Dinkley in the new animated series Velma. She is also writer and producer on the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and the HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Priyanka will be seen in the Prime Video web series Citadel and rom-com Love Again this year. She is also expected to begin shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa alongside Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
