Microsoft has been trying to combat Apple M series chips with custom ARM chipset made in partnership with other chip manufacturers. However, it appears that the company is planning to take it up a notch and manufacture in-house chips now. Windows Latest has spotted some job posting that suggests that the company is planning to build its own custom ARM-based chipsets for client devices that would most likely compete with Apple M series silicons
In addition to that, the company is also rumoured to be optimising Windows 12 better for ARM-based silicons. As per the report, the job listings were for custom silicon accelerators, System on Chips (SoCs) and high-performance, high-bandwidth designs.
In one of the job postings, the Microsoft Silicon team was looking for Principal System on Chip Architect with experience in high-performance SOC architecture and CPU and GPU architecture and design.
The role of the candidate, as per the listing, was to build complex, state-of-the-art SoCs using leading technology nodes and to collaborate closely with internal customers and partners.
Windows Latest has mentioned the documents mentioned that the engineer would be assigned to create SoC programming models, comprehensive and clear SoC performance requirements and work with customer hardware and software teams.
All these developments and new job listings clearly indicate that Microsoft is up to something with ARM-based chipset and as Windows 12 is getting closer to launch, it’s most likely that Microsoft is planning to bring better optimising to Windows 12 for ARM chipsets.
In other recent news, Microsoft has confirmed the end-of-life date for Windows 10. The company has already stopped the development of Windows 10 and the operating system won’t receive any new updates going forward. However, the company will keep rolling out security updates till 2025.
