Microsoft is once again pushing Edge browser on users – Times of India

Microsoft has always been a little aggressive when it comes to its Chromium-based Edge browser. The company has been forcing users or prompting users to switch to Edge across the platforms, especially on Windows 11. Now, after losing the second most popular desktop browser title to Apple’s Safari, the company is once again putting added effort to pursue users to use the Edge browser.
Windows Latest has reported several incidents of Microsoft forcing Edge upon users. The most recent one is the broken default browser setup feature on Windows 10 and Windows 11. According to the reports, the latest update broke the feature that allows users to change the default web browser on the platform. Some users have also encountered pop-ups when they have opened Chrome or tried to set it as the default web browser on Windows.
The broken default browser feature is a part of the latest cumulative update KB5025221. After the update, some users have reported that they are unable to set Chrome as the default browser and have encountered a popup about Edge everything they’ve opened Chrome.
Another incident reported is that Microsoft is pushing Outlook and Teams users by adding Edge to these two platforms.
Microsoft Edge has been in the news for all the AI capabilities the company has added to the browser. However, it appears that did not sit well with users as the browser has slid to third position from second and has been replaced by Apple Safari, according to a report by Statcounter.
Meanwhile, Edge has recently received several new features including the Bing Sidebar, DALL-E-based image generator, etc. In addition, Edge also comes with enhanced security features, memory management, efficiency mode and more for a better user experience.
