MI vs GT IPL 2023: ‘I had two shots in mind’ – Suryakumar Yadav on his stunning century against Gujarat Titans | Cricket News – Times of India

Suryakumar Yadav’s return to form has been the key to Mumbai Indians’ revival in IPL 2023, and it was once again highlighted in MI’s win over Gujarat Titans on Friday, when Surya blazed to an unbeaten 49-ball century to light up the Wankhede Stadium.
Surya’s blitzkrieg prduced 103 runs at a strike rate of 210.20, including 11 fours and 6 sixes.
Later at the post-match presentation, when asked if this was one of his best T20 knocks, Surya said: “Can say that. Whenever I get runs, I think the team should win. Most importantly we batted first today and said (to ourselves) that we would keep the same tempo (as) when you are chasing 200-220.”

Surya added that he knew what shots to play.
“There was a lot of dew on the ground, it was there from the 7-8th over and I knew what shots to play. I was not thinking about hitting straight. I had two shots in mind — one over fine leg and one over third man,” he said.

“There is lots and lots of practice before the game. So when I come into the game, I am very clear and just go express myself.”
With this knock, Surya has climbed to number three in the batting charts. In 12 matches, he has scored 479 runs at an average of 43.54 and a strike rate of over 190.83. He has scored a century and four half-centuries this season.

MI’s dominating 218/5 was put under threat by Gujarat all-rounder Rashid Khan, who lit up the skies with 10 sixes en route to his 32-ball 79 not out before the GT chase ended at 191/8 to fall short by 27 runs.
