Meta: Meta previews generative AI tools for Instagram, Facebook – Times of India

Facebook parent Meta is already investing in artificial intelligence (AI) and this week, the company previewed some of the AI tools, including a chatbot, in an all-hands meeting at the Hacker Square pavilion at Meta’s Menlo Park headquarters – the first held since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘Incredible breakthroughs’ in AI
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed the recent layoffs but he mostly focussed on the company’s generative AI projects and ‘incredible breakthroughs’.
“In the last year, we’ve seen some really incredible breakthroughs — qualitative breakthroughs — on generative AI and that gives us the opportunity to now go take that technology, push it forward, and build it into every single one of our products,” Zuckerberg said, as reported by CNBC.

“We’re going to play an important and unique role in the industry in bringing these capabilities to billions of people in new ways that other people aren’t going to do,” he was quoted as saying.
It is to be noted that Meta is yet to release any consumer-facing generative AI products and lately, it has invested in infrastructure to support its AI innovations.
AI in Instagram
Instagram already offers various filters to dramatically alter the tone of the images but the company demonstrated a tool that could modify user photos via text prompts and another that could create emoji stickers for messaging services.
AI in Messenger and WhatsApp
Meta is also bringing AI tools, such as AI agents with different personalities and capabilities to help users, to WhatsApp and Messenger.
Additionally, AI-generated stickers will also be coming to Messenger. The company will leverage its image generation model to enable users to create stickers based on text prompts.

“With AI-generated stickers, our users can have infinitely more options for self-expression, cultural representations, and even trend relevance. Of course, stickers are just the tip of the iceberg,” The Verge quoted Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta’s vice president of AI, as saying.
The AI tools will also allow users to transform images, like changing the aspect ratio of a picture or turning a picture into a painting.
The company also announced a productivity assistant for employees, called Metamate, that will answer employees’ queries and perform tasks.
