Meta: Job cuts at Facebook-parent Meta may impact these teams in next round – Times of India

Facebook parent Meta laid off 11,000 employees in November 2022. In March, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will cut another 10,000 jobs in the coming months. He also noted that these job cuts will impact the tech departments of the social media giant. According to a report by Vox, Meta is expected to conduct its next round of layoffs this week. The report quotes an internal memo that says that the layoffs will start on Wednesday (April 19).
Apart from this, Meta is also reportedly planning to lay off more employees next month and this may affect the business side of the company.
Teams to be impacted
As per the report, Meta has notified its employees about the upcoming job cuts via the internal memo posted on the Meta employee message board. The memo states that these layoffs will start this week and affect a broad range of technical teams. This includes Facebook, Instagram, Reality Labs and WhatsApp.
The report claims that a Meta spokesperson confirmed the memo being sent to employees, but declined to comment any further. Meanwhile, another source said that this particular round of layoffs will affect nearly 4,000 jobs.
Lori Goler, Meta’s head of people, said in the memo, “This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta,” the report added.

Golar’s note also mentioned that Meta employees in North America will be notified by email between 4 am to 5 am PT. The report also revealed that apart from North America, the timelines of the job cuts will vary for different countries. The Meta official also mentioned that employees of some countries will not be impacted at all.
Meta has also asked some of its North American staff to work from home (if their job profile allows) that day. The company mentions that this will offer laid-off employees “space to process the news.” The report has kept its sources anonymous due to concerns about their professional repercussions.
