Days before Apple is expected to unveil its xReality mixed reality headset, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook parent company, has announced the Quest 3 – the company’s next-generation virtual and mixed reality device. The new device is said to feature higher resolution, stronger performance, breakthrough Meta Reality technology, a slimmer profile and more comfortable form factor.
Meta Quest 3 price, availability
Meta said that Quest 3 will ship in all countries where Meta Quest is currently supported this fall. This means that just like its previous iterations, the headset will not come to India.
The 128GB headset starts at $499.99, and the company said it will “offer an additional storage option for those who want some extra space.” The company also announced that it will share more information regarding the headset at Meta Connect, which will take place on September 27.

Meta Quest 3 features
Meta said that Quest 3 gets the company’s highest resolution display and pancake optics to make content look better than before. Under the hood, the headset gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which is claimed to deliver more than twice the graphical performance as the previous generation Snapdragon GPU in Quest 2.
The Quest 3 gets Meta Reality technology which essentially understands and responds to objects in the physical space and allows users to navigate that space in natural ways. Other features include high-fidelity colour Passthrough, machine learning and spatial understanding required to interact with virtual content and the physical world simultaneously.

Quest 3 makes Meta Reality available to even more people and at a lower price point, making it our first mass-market offering to deliver both cutting-edge VR and MR experiences in a single device, setting a new benchmark for future headsets.
Meta claims that the Quest 3 is 40% slimmer optic profile compared to Quest 2 and gets redesigned Touch Plus controllers. What’s new is TruTouch haptics that first debuted in Touch Pro. All Quest 2 games are playable on Quest 3.
Quest 2 gets price cut
Meta is also cutting the price of the Quest 2 headset that launched in 2020. Starting June 4, Quest 2 will be available for $299.99 for the 128GB model and $349.99 for the 256GB variant.
