MediaTek is a leading chipmaker for smart TVs and with its Pentonic 2000 processor, it has entered into the upstate 8K 120Hz territory. The chip also boasts AI upscaling to 8K picture quality, ultra-fast memory support, and several other industry-first kinds of features. Let’s uncover the details.

Anyways, getting into the chip at hand, the Pentonic 2000 comes with an integrated chip that enables 8K resolution content at 120Hz refresh rate with MEMC motion smoothing feature. There is even an AI upscaling feature for non-8K content. Needless to say, you also get Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos goodness in the mix.
The new chipset is fabbed on TSMC’s 7nm architecture. Well, it is the World’s First 7nm 8K Smart TV chip. Further, it can leverage UFS 3.1 storage and high-speed memory configurations.
It also comes with support for Versatile Video Coding (VVC) for H.266 media. You must have come across H.264 and H.265 content before but this can encode in the newer H.266 standard. This brings improved efficiency in content compression. Not just that, the Pentonic 2000 is equipped with decoding in HEVC, VP9, and VS3 formats.
