MediaTek has a new competitor for Qualcomm, the Dimensity Dimensity 7200 chipset – Times of India
MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 7200 chipset, a 5G-enabled chipset based on the 4nm process of TSMC. The Dimensity 7200 chipset marks the debut of the 7000 series, aimed at gamers and photography enthusiasts.
The Dimensity 7200 chipset is fabbed on the N4P process, the 4nm node of TSMC, which is also used for the Dimensity 9200 chipset.
Dimensity 7200 features as powerful GPU as Dimensity 9200, the company’s top-end chipset
The chipset features two Cortex-A715 high-performance cores with a peak clock speed of 2.8GHz and six Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The graphics are handled by the Mali G610 MC4 GPU, which as per the company, is as powerful as the Mali G610 MC4 GPU in the Dimensity 9200 chipset. Furthermore, the chipset has support for UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM.
The Dimensity 7200 chipset supports full HD display up to 144Hz, with support for HDR10+, CUVA HDR and Dolby HDR.
Featuring the MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0, the Dimensity 7200 chipset supports AI-based Variable Rate Shading. Further, the chipset has MediaTek’s in-built AI Processing Unit (APU) that promises to maximize the efficiency of AI processes and AI-fusion processing.
Dimensity 7200 supports 200MP cameras
The Dimensity 7200 chipset features Imagiq 765, a 14-bit HDR ISP. The chipset comes with support for 200MP main cameras, 4K HDR video recording, and simultaneous video stream from two cameras at Full HD resolution. Furthermore, the chipset offers all-pixel autofocus and motion-compensated noise reduction, and real-time portrait beautification.
The Dimensity 7200 provides AI-based SDR-to-HDR video playback to improve multimedia viewing. It also supports Bluetooth LE Audio technology and Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio, enabling wireless earbud usage.
The Dimensity 7200 supports 5G sub-6GHz and has a maximum downlink speed of 4.7 Gbps. The chipset can handle 2CC Carrier Aggregation and Dual 5G SIM, as well as support triband Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
With the Dimensity 7200 chipset, MediaTek takes on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 series.
MediaTek Dimensity 7200-powered smartphones will debut in Q3 of 2022. So, we should see the first wave of smartphones featuring Dimensity 7200 from March onwards.
