Indore: Medical equipment including ventilators have been lying idle in stores of hospitals for the last two years in medical hub of Madhya Pradesh.

At least 40 ventilators, beds, monitor screen, bipap, and other equipment are idle in stores of five government hospitals.

Of those, 27 were provided to PC Sethi hospital and rest in MTH hospital in 2021 during the COVID second wave.

Interestingly, the health authorities re-distributed ventilators to the Civil hospital in Mhow, Sanwer and district hospital a couple of weeks ago, officials said.

But they landed up in stores there from PC Sethi hospital store, officials said.

Superintendent, PC Sethi Hospital, Dr Nikhil Oza said, “The ventilators are redistributed to other hospitals in Mhow, Sanwer and district hospital store. Now, the six are left with us.”

The ventilator costs around rupees two lakh to 15 lakh. These were provided during COVID-19 to hospitals to tackle pandemic virus infection.

Similarly, MTH hospitals are provided over 50 ventilators. Of those, over 20 are lying vacant. A senior official said, “The hospital still has a COVID-19 ward in place, where the beds and ventilators are still kept.”

MGM dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said, “The ventilators are kept in working condition by following a rotational mechanism.”
