Makers announce release dates of films as theatres in Maharashtra to reopen on October 22

Rohit Shetty, Pen Studios’ Jayantilal Gada along with key theatre representatives and exhibitors, met the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, on September 25 to discuss the reopening of the theatres.

Post the meeting, it was announced that theatres in Maharashtra will reopen from October 22 and the standard operating procedure will be announced soon. Producers, distributors as well as theatre owners, welcomed this decision wholeheartedly.

As soon as the news broke on Saturday evening, makers started announcing theatrical release dates of their upcoming movies.

Diwali it is!

One of the first films which will hit the silver screen after cinemas reopen will be Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s Sooryavanshi. Confirming the film’s release on Diwali, Akshay took to social media and wrote, “So many families would be thanking Uddhav Thackeray today! Grateful for allowing the reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra from Oct 22. Ab kisikerokenarukegi – Aa Rahi Hai Police #Sooryavanshi #Diwali2021.”

Christmas of ‘83

Kabir Khan’s biographical film ’83 which is based on the life of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev will be released on Christmas 2021. The film stars Ranveer Singh among others. On the other hand, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer, Laal Singh Chaddha will release on February 14, 2022. Announcing the new release, Aamir Khan Productions mentioned, “We welcome the decision of the administration to allow cinemas to re-open from October 22. Due to the delays faced as a result of the pandemic, we will be unable to release our film Laal Singh Chaddha this Christmas. We will now be releasing Laal Singh Chaddha on Valentine’s Day, 2022.”

The famous four

Yash Raj Films has also announced the theatrical release dates of its four upcoming films. While Bunty Aur Babli 2, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari, will release November 19, 2021, YRF’s big budget Prithviraj releases worldwide on January 21, 2022. It stars superstar Akshay Kumar in and as King Prithviraj Chauhan. Manushi Chhillar debuts as Sanyogita opposite Akshay while Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood will play pivotal roles.

YRF’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar, starring superstar Ranveer Singh, will release worldwide February 25, 2022. A family entertainer set in Gujarat, Ranveer will be seen playing a Gujarati man, who becomes an unlikely hero. The fourth film, YRF’s Shamshera, starring superstar Ranbir Kapoor, is set to release on March 18, 2022. Vaani Kapoor is paired opposite Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt plays the villain. Yash Raj and Rohit Shetty have already blocked dates of their much-awaited movies.
