Nick Kyrgios has been given the biggest fine of the US Open so far for his mis-behaviour in his quarter-final loss.

The Australian has been fined $23 thousand after throwing a drinks bottle to the ground and then smashing two racquets at the end of the match.

The total of his fines in New York for offences including spitting and swearing is now $54 thousand – although having won more thant $780 thousand in prizemoney at the tournament he’ll have no trouble covering the bill.

Meanwhile World number one Iga Swiatek is through to the U.S. Tennis Open semi finals after a straight sets win over her American opponent Jessica Pegula.

The top-seeded French Open champion is through to the final four in New York for the first time.

The win also means she’s guaranteed of remaining the world’s top player when the tournament ends.

Despite the victory the Pole is still trying to regain her dominant form from earlier in the year when she went on a 37-match winning streak.

The 21-year-old twice failed to serve out the match in the second set and was broken six times by the eighth-seeded Pegula.

Swiatek will meet Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.

In the men’s draw American Frances Tiafoe is through to his first Grand Slam semi-final.

After downing second seed Rafa Nadal in the biggest win of his career, he returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium brimming with confidence to see off ninth seed Andrey Rublev.
