HIGHLIGHTS
- Rohit Sharma led India to a 44-run win in the 2nd ODI
- Rohit was seen yelling at leg-spinner Chahal on Wednesday
- India took a 2-0 unbeatable lead in the 3-match series
The “Kohli cam” has taken a back seat and the “Rohit cam” is quite prominent these days as the host broadcasters don’t miss a move of captain Rohit Sharma during the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. The new captain has been quite proactive on the field, leading India to a comfortable 2-0 series victory with one ODI still to go in the 3-match series.
As it turned out, Rohit Sharma was caught on stump mic yelling at leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal during the 2nd ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. Rohit was constantly working on his field setting even as West Indies were huffing and puffing towards a 238-run target in the 2nd ODI, taking time to get the positioning right when his spinners and pacers were operating against the West Indies.
Tail-enders Odean Smith and Alzarri Joseph were stitching a steady stand for the 9th wicket when Rohit Sharma brought back off-spinner Washington Sundar back into the attack to break the partnership. The match-up against the off-spinner was in favor of the right-handers and Rohit wanted to make sure he got his field right to give Sundar the cushion that he needed.
As he was setting the field, Rohit, it seems, was unhappy with the pace at which Chahal was getting back to his fielding position. Rohit was caught on the stump asking what had happened to the leg-spinner and why he was taking so much time to settle into his position.
“Peecha jhaa. “Kya hua tereko? Bhaag kyun nahi raha hai theek se? Chal udhar bhaag (What happened to you? Why aren’t you running properly? Go and field there),” Rohit told Chahal, as caught on the stump mic.

A video clip of the frustrated India captain yelling directives to Chahal went viral on social media soon after India clinched a 44-run win in the 2nd ODI.
Notably, in the following over, Sundar got the wicket of big-hitting Odean Smith who was threatening to spoil India’s party. Smith went for a big heave to the mid-wicket region but he was not able to clear the fence with Virat Kohli taking a fine catch at the deep.
India successfully defended a 238-run target with Prasidh Krishna starring with the ball with figures of 4/12 in 9 overs. India clinched an unbeatable 2-0 series lead, extending their unbeaten run over West Indies to 11 series.
The two teams will play the final ODI on Friday, February 11 in Ahmedabad before heading to Kolkata to play a 3-match T20I series from February 16.
