Karthikeya 2 star Nikhil Siddhartha on film outdoing Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan: ‘I don’t want to be compared’

Nikhil Siddhartha has reacted to his film Karthikeya 2’s comparisons with Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan after it fared better than the Hindi films at the box office. The Telugu film became a success at the local box office and its Hindi version ruled the Hindi market as well. Meanwhile, the recent big Hindi releases Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, led by Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar respectively, failed to perform well in theatres. Karthikeya 2 continues to do good business in the Hindi market despite being released around the same time as Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, as well as Taapsee Pannu-starrer Dobaara. Reacting to it, the film’s lead star Nikhil expressed his admiration for Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar and said he doesn’t want any comparison between him and them.

The actor told Siddharth Kannan, “I am a big fan of Aamir Khan sir. One of my favourite films ever is Andaaz Apna Apna. I am a huge fan, and of Dangal. And Akshay Sir is like such a huge star. So I do not want to be compared, because Karthikeya was a standalone film, and we have done this with a lot of heart, a lot of energy. So the minute you compare it you are not doing justice to it.”

As per the latest box office figures, the Hindi version of Karthikeya 2 has earned 19.29 crore by Thursday since its release on August 13. It has also crossed 57 crore collection in all languages combined within 11 days of its release. Laal Singh Chaddha, which released in theatres on August 11, collected 56 crore in 13 days while Raksha Bandhan which released on the same day collected 42.60 crore in the same time period. Karthikeya 2’s Hindi version also remains unaffected by the release of Vijay Deverakonda’s Bollywood debut Liger.

Karthikeya 2 is a mystery adventure film written and directed by Chandoo Mondeti, the sequel to the 2014 film Karthikeya. The plot follows Nikhil’s Dr Karthikeya who is on a quest to find the lost anklet of Lord Krishna. It also stars Anupam Kher in a pivotal role.
