Team India will be looking to put the World Test Championship final defeat behind and make a fresh start when they kick off their two-match series against World Test Championship champions New Zealand in Kanpur on Thursday.

It is indeed a rarity to find an Indian Test team that is without its hit opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Also missing from the line-up is skipper Virat Kohli and a genuine match-winning keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant.

New Zealand may have golden memories of beating India in Southampton to claim the inaugural WTC trophy in June, but the neutral territory of the Rose Bowl can hardly seem further away.

Without pace spearhead Trent Boult and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, New Zealand will face the same opponents where they have never won a Test series, let alone a Test since the 1988/89 tour.

New Zealand’s four-prong pace attack reigned supreme in the last COVID-affected WTC cycle but the Black Caps will be unable to fall back on their traditional strengths in Kanpur and Mumbai.

1st Test: Kanpur weather

With the early winter setting in North India, the weather on Thursday will be ideal for the start of the first Test against New Zealand. The temperature in Kanpur will be between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius with the humidity ranging between 30 to 40 percent. The chances for any rain are very unlikely during the entire Test match. The winds during the forenoon and afternoon hours are expected to be from the west/ northwest with speeds of 15-25 Km PH.
