Kangana Ranaut remembers Pradeep Sarkar, shares video from their last meal together
Kangana Ranaut has shared a video from her last meal with late filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar. The two were to collaborate in his next on late iconic theatre personality, Noti Binodini. He died on Friday at 67. Reacting to the news of his death, Kangana said she won’t be able to cope with the loss. Sharing a video on Twitter, Kangana wrote, “Last meal I had with Pradeep dada, he knew I love Bengali food, this was during Noti Binodini prep meet, that’s his hand in the first frame… Such a terrible news, we were to meet as soon I got to Mumbai… My heart is sinking and I won’t be able to cope with this shocking news.”
She further added on her Instagram Stories, “He made me sit next to him and kept telling me what to eat… I am shattered, we were to start Noti Binodini in October and now I feel so lost, I was to meet him this week…this is so unsettling.”
Kangana had announced the film on Noti Binodini in October last year. She had said in a statement: “I am a very big fan of Pradeep Sarkaar ji and very happy for this opportunity. Also this will be my first collaboration with Prakash Kapadia ji and I am completely thrilled to be part of this remarkable journey with some of the greatest artist of this country.”
Binodini Dasi was born in a family of sex workers but went on to become one of the first stars of Bengali theatre. She was popularly known as Noti Binodini. It was to be directed by Pradeep Sarkar whose most notable works include Parineeta, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani and Helicopter Eela and a web series, Duranga.
Pradeep Sarkar was admitted to the ICU of Lilavati hospital in suburban Bandra following a fever where he died on Friday. “According to doctors, he had many comorbidities which weakened his immunity. His blood pressure was fluctuating. Since COVID-19 hit him in July 2022, he was quite weak,” his wife Panchali said according to PTI.
Kajol, who worked in Pradeep’s Helicopter Eela, shared a tweet along with a picture of them together. “Dada, you will be missed. Your sense of humor, humility and all the work you put into your films will always be remembered. RIP,” she wrote.
