Rumours that Reliance Jio is working on a 5G-enabled smartphone have been confirmed now that it has appeared on the BIS Certification website. The launch date, however, has not been confirmed yet.

Rumours regarding Reliance Jio’s new budget 5G smartphone have been doing the rounds. Now, it seems that these rumours have some weight as the Jio Phone 5G BIS Certification has appeared on the latter’s website, confirming that the phone does exist. Jio smartphones are typically targetted at first-time purchases, and the 5G phone will follow the same approach, which means we can expect to see entry-level specifications.

The Reliance Jio Phone 5G is believed to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC that has been codenamed Holi (it may just be the Snapdragon 480+ SoC). The processor could have an Adreno 619 GPU. The Geekbench listing revealed that the upcoming smartphone will run on Android 12, and may have a forked version of the OS layered on the same (presumably, PragatiOS). The OS is likely to offer support for Indian languages. Its Geekbench score was 549 in the single-core tests and 1661 in the multi-core tests.

Reliance Jio has not confirmed anything about its upcoming 5G smartphone as of now. The company has also been making strides in bringing its 5G network to India.
