Jim Sarbh, who will is seen in the second edition of Sony BBC Earth’s Young Earth Champions, talks about the show & more

How was your overall experience working with Sony BBC Earth?

I thoroughly enjoyed it because I believe in the cause. I think learning to live with our environment in a more sustainable manner is really our only option for survival on this planet. I believe education is the place to start, so I am glad that Sony BBC Earth has taken this wonderful initiative.

What truly makes a champion?

A champion can be many things, but in this case, a Young Earth Champion, would be someone fighting to represent and protect our planet. I associate a champion with determination, an indomitable spirit, and a clear vision for the future.

How much do you think kids are aware of what can and cannot harm the environment?

I think they are smarter than we think. I think their access to information puts them in a better place at a tender age. And whether they are aware or not, it is our duty as the guiding generation to make them aware.

How do you manage to do your bit for the environment despite busy shooting schedules?

I try to reduce my energy, plastic and water consumption. I try to walk and cycle to areas near me, and avoid using the car. I enjoy the greenery around me. In future, I would like to be associated with reforestation activities and cleaning up of our water bodies.

What is your message to people?

Try to eliminate plastic, try to conserve water and electricity; take care of your old things – reduce, reuse, recycle.

Any words of encouragement for participants in Young Earth Champions?

I thoroughly look forward to seeing your proposals and ideas. I am looking forward to chatting with you and learn a thing or two myself.
