NEW DELHI: Finally, good news for Indian cricket fans as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has attained full fitness, confirmed BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, on Thursday. In all probability, Bumrah is likely to travel to Ireland for a three-match T20I series next month.

The squad for the series is expected to be announced this week. The three T20Is will take place on August 18, 20 and 23.

The BCCI secretary also asserted that there will be consistency in player selections.Currently Bumrah,KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna are nursing injuries at the NCA.
“There is no time frame for these players to declare themselves fit. But we will have consistency in selection after the Ireland tour. No player will be directly included in the World Cup squad without playing matches before that,” Shah said while talking to reporters.
Bumrah underwent a successful back surgery in March, which has kept him out of competitive cricket since a T20I match against Australia in September 2022. Although he briefly returned to action during the Australia T20I series, the injury resurfaced, leading to further setbacks.
Bumrah’s road to recovery has been challenging. He was selected for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January this year after starting his rehabilitation in November the previous year and resuming bowling in December. However, as his fitness drills intensified in January, he experienced discomfort once again.
Due to his injury, Bumrah was unable to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. The medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru had initially planned for his return during this year’s Asia Cup, which is scheduled to begin on August 30.

Recently, there have been positive signs of Bumrah’s faster-than-expected recovery. The BCCI recently stated in a media release that he was bowling with “full intensity” during practice sessions. Since starting his rehab in April, Bumrah has gradually increased his bowling workload.
Bumrah will be visiting Ireland for the second time, the first being in 2018 when he fractured his thumb in the first match. This injury forced him to miss the first half of the subsequent England tour in the same year.
His return to full fitness will be eagerly anticipated by cricket fans as he is a key player for the Indian cricket team.
