Jan Aushadhi Kendra opened at CIMS premisesMysuru: The district unit of Indian Red Cross Society has set up a Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) hospital premises.

The new centre with medicines and medical equipment at affordable prices, the authorities hope, will act as a boon to the people of the backward border district. The district has 11 such centres including the newly opened centre on Sampige Road.

Chamarajanagar taluk alone has five centres, Kollegal taluk has four, Gundlupet and Yelandur taluk each have one centre.

Poor patients can now buy medicines at affordable prices as most of these centres were opened at the Government Hospital premises.

“I used to spend around Rs 500 to Rs 800 every month for my parents’ medicines earlier. But now, I am buying same medicines prescribed by doctors at Jan Aushadhi centres for Rs 180. It has helped me me save money every month,” said Chinnaswamy Setty, resident of Chamarajanagar town.

“Government must open such centres at Hanur, which has no such facility so far,” said Chamarajanagar District Sugarcane Growers Association president Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj.

Speaking to TOI, district resident medical officer Dr M Mahesh, who is also district secretary for Indian Red Cross Society, said the society has planned more such centres across the district.

The sale of medicines at CIMS Jan Aushadhi centres is restricted till 6pm currently. The society will take all measures to make sure the centre is functional round-the-clock in coming days, he said.
