Is Adipurush OTT release being preponed? Here’s the latest

Adipurush is one of the most talked about films of 2023, whether for good or for bad. It seems the movie is unwilling to stay out of the news cycle, as we now have another set of rumours surrounding the film’s OTT release. Here are all the details.

Adipurush OTT release being hurried?

It all started back in mid-June when certain reports surfaced suggesting that Adipurush producers might fasten the theatrical release-to-OTT timeline and release the movie digitally earlier, in late July or by the first week of August. This is earlier than the expected 8-week delay that ends around mid August.

Now, a report by 123Telugu.com suggests that this rumour is in fact, false. They claim that sources close to the media website have confirmed that the OTT release will happen as per schedule, around the second week of August. A report by Mirchi9 had claimed that Adipurush has two potential dates for OTT release, August 11th and 15th. But with two mainstream movies releasing in theatres on August 11th, namely Bholaa Shankar and Animal, the release could be pushed to August 15th this year.

To recall, Adipurush will exclusively stream on Netflix whenever it makes its OTT debut. While the movie’s producers were said to have partnered with Amazon Prime Video in the earlier stages, Netflix swooped in to bag the digital streaming rights for a rumoured Rs 250 crore.

This might act as a saving grace for the producers, who are set to lose up to a whopping Rs 250 crore due to the tanking box office performance by the film. The movie was made on a budget of approximately Rs 450-500 crore, and has only been able to garner about Rs 150 crore at the box office.
