IPL 2023: Brian Lara’s decision makes Harry Brook come good | Cricket News – Times of India
Harry Brook justified his credentials by hitting an unbeaten 55-ball 100 in his maiden IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Friday.
The youngster faced some criticism after getting 13, 3 and 13 in his first three IPL innings.
In spite of the England batter opening only thrice in 93 T20 innings before the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Brian Lara played the masterstroke by asking him to come up the order.
“Harry could not perform in two-three matches, so it was in Brian’s (Lara) mind that we will bring him up and I will go in the middle,” SRH’s Abhishek Sharma stated in the post-match press conference on Friday.
“We all know that Brook can take down any pace attack. I was injured in between and we backed Brook to open. I think that was a very good decision by the coach and management,” Sharma added.
Brook allowed his skipper Adrian Markram to take the centre stage when the KKR’s spinning trio started opera- ting, but returned to play the big shots once the spinners completed their quotas in the middle overs.
The Yorkshire batter, who collected 34 runs off 29 against spin, was severe against the pacers getting 66 off 26 balls. Sharma, who played against Brook at the U-19 level, also said the Hyderabad think tank had full trust in Brook’s abilities.

“It was just a matter of time and that’s what he did in the game. If you see his innings in Tests, it’s almost the same as T20. He always keeps telling everyone that he just reacts to the ball and plays his natural game, whatever the situation is,” Sharma said.
