IPL 2022: RCB vs SRH: Faf, Hasaranga guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to 67-run romp over Sunrisers Hyderabad | Cricket News – Times of India
The importance of a good powerplay cannot be overstated. Royal Challengers Bangalore recovered from an ordinary start. Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t and suffered their fourth successive defeat.
Like in the match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the tendency to leave it late – they needed 124 from the last 10 overs and 82 from last five – will impact the playoff chances of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who faltered once again in the chase and lost by 67 runs after succumbing to the wiles of Wanindu Hasaranga (5/18).

Two wickets in the first over meant SRH had their task cut out in overhauling RCB’s 192 for three, which was built on the second wicket partnership of 105 (73b) between skipper Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar (48; 38b, 4×4, 6×2), and Dinesh Karthik’s blitzkrieg.
Karthik’s unbeaten 30 (8b, 4×1, 6×4) included 25 in the final over by Fazalhaq Farooqi as the SRH pace attack felt the brunt of the RCB batters smarting from their nine-wicket defeat in the first leg. On a wicket where taking pace off the ball yielded dividends, the SRH attack floundered with the trio of Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi and Farooqi conceding 114 runs in their 10 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was an exception but RCB added 99 runs in the last 10 overs with du Plessis’ unbeaten 73 (50b, 4×8, 6×2) putting them on course to a match-winning total after Virat Kohli fell to a golden duck against SRH for the second time in this edition of IPL.
Glenn Maxwell helped himself too, but if the unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 33 runs between du Plessis and Karthik in just 10 deliveries made it difficult, SRH made the target daunting as skipper Kane Williamson was run out without facing a delivery and Abhishek Sharma succumbed to Maxwell.

SRH were playing catch-up thereafter and mustered 125. In-form Aiden Markram flattered to deceive as he became Hasaranga’s first of five victims. The Sri Lankan spinner mowed down the middle order, counting Nicholas Pooran among his victims, and totally derailed SRH’s chase that fluttered for a while due to Rahul Tripathi’s 58 (37b, 4×6, 6×2).
Though Tripathi dealt a good hand, lack of partnerships and their inability to force the pace hurt SRH on a day when Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj were outstanding and RCB were clinical, the reprieve to Tripathi notwithstanding.
