NAVI MUMBAI: Bolstered by the return of their flamboyant India batsman Suyakumar Yadav, the Mumbai Indians will look for their first win when they take on a new-look Rajasthan Royals at DY Patil stadium on Saturday afternoon.
“Suryakumar is a retained player and has been a key member of this side and we are all eagerly waiting for him to take the field,” said Zaheer Khan, Director of Cricket Operations at MI. “In terms of his availability for the next game, yes he is (available),” said the former India pacer.

‘Surya,’ who has completed his rehabilitation at NCA in Bangalore after being out due to a finger injury, will be keen to tee off in IPL-2022.

With ‘Sky’ back and set to bat at No. 3, MI are likely to drop Anmolpreet Singh, who batted at that number in the opener and managed to get only eight. Hyderabad’s Tilak Verma, who scored a 15ball 22, and Singapore’s Tim David could get another chance.

Much to MI’s relief, their star opener Ishan Kishan, who had blasted a 48-ball 81 not out against DC, is also fit and has recovered from the blow he sustained on his toe in that game. “He is absolutely fine. He has been practising and training regularly. We had a gap in between, so that obviously helped him as well to prepare for this game. He’s fully fit and available,” informed Zaheer.

Justifying his Rs 15.25 cr price tag, Kishan had added 67 off 50 balls for the opening wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma. Mumbai’s bigger worry at the moment is their seam bowling, which lacked bite as they failed to defend 177 against DC on a belter. Pace ace Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless for 43 in 3. 2 overs, while Australia’s left-arm pacer Daniel Sams conceded 57 in four overs.
Both the teams head into this game in a contrasting fashion. While MI suffered a four-wicket defeat against Capitals in their lung-opener, the Royals, on the other hand, were clinical in their 61-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Pune.

After a long time, the Royals look dangerous. In skipper Sanju Samson, openers – Yashashvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, they’ve a power-packed top three. Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer add muscle to the middle-order. Add Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, and seasoned spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals look the real deal.
