India U19 World Cup-winning youngsters found buyers on Day 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction on Sunday in Bengaluru. As many as 3 players from the World Cup-winning squad from earlier this month found new IPL teams.

All-rounder Raj Angad Bawa, who picked up a 5-wicket haul in the final against the England U19 team in the West Indies, was sold to Rs 2 crore to Punjab Kings. He becomes the highest-paid player from the current lot of U19 India team at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Raj Angad Bawa also had interest from Mumbai Indians as his stocks rose from his base price of Rs 20 lakh before Punjab placed the winning bid.

The young all-rounder scored 252 runs in 10 matches with the bat, averaging 63.00 and striking over 100. He hit a record-setting 162 against Uganda at the U19 World Cup.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Rajvardhan Hanagargekar was sold to Chennai Super Kings at the mega auction on Sunday. The 19-year-old from Maharashtra impressed one and all at the U19 World Cup with his pace that touched 140-plus consistently. He can also hit a long ball as he showcased at the World Cup.

Chennai Super Kings broke the trend of picking up players in the early and late 30s as they went for Rajvardhan Hangargekar after picking Sri Lanka’s young spinner Mahesh Theekshana.

U19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 50 lakh. After missing the then U19 World Cup-winning captain Virat Kohli in 2008,

Meanwhile, Harnoor Singh and Viky Oswal, India’s leading wicket-taker at the U19 World Cup, went unsold on Sunday.

It comes a day after South Africa’s Baby AB, Dewald Brevis, was sold to Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore. Brevis was the leading run-scorer at the recently-concluded U19 World Cup.
