Iphone: This can be the ‘best’ time to sell your iPhone 8, iPhone X models, here’s why – Times of India
Apple’s smartphones tend to have higher resale values than Android phones but that might not be the case for these older models. According to a report by price comparison site SellCell, the above-mentioned iPhone models may lose a huge chunk of their remaining value in the days leading up to the release of iOS 17. Apple also rolls out security patches for supported iPhones that protect them from hackers. As the company drops support for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, these models will also become more vulnerable to security threats.
How resale values of older models can get affected
In 2022, Apple revoked support for iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 series after announcing the iOS 16 operating system. These models lost nearly 42.8% of their worth between the time when the iOS 16 beta was announced in June and was made publicly available in September. With iOS 17, the same can happen with the iPhone X and iPhone 8 models.
The report also adds that iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 series models didn’t lose much of their value in the first few weeks after the beta version of the iOS 16 was released. The rate of depreciation accelerated as the final release date drew closer.
If the depreciation value of iPhone X and iPhone 8 models follow the same pattern, owners may be able to recoup some of the lost value before the end of June. In such a case, the resale values of these models will start declining rapidly thereafter.
So, this can be the best time for iPhone X and iPhone 8 users to sell their smartphones and upgrade to newer models. These smartphones were released in 2017 and received updates from Apple for six years.
