iPhone 15 Pro: These new features are the reason why you may have to pay more – Times of India
In the latest edition of his newsletter, Power On, Gurman gives a sneak peek into what the coming lineup of iPhones could be like.
Titanium frame, thinner bezels, and upgraded cameras for iPhone 15 Pro
According to Gurman, the new Pro models – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max – will feature titanium frames rather than stainless steel. This change will make them stronger and lighter. Additionally, a new display technology, internally referred to as LiPO, will allow for thinner bezels, reducing the bezels by one-third while keeping Dynamic Isnland.
Apple planned touch-sensitive buttons with haptic feedback for volume, mute/ring, and power. But this was eventually cancelled due to engineering problems and cost concerns. However, the Action button is still expected to replace the mute switch on the Pro models. Like on Apple Watch Ultra, the Action button is said to be customizable even on iPhones, offering many features.
There is more to it. The iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to come with the new 3nm A17 Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the two models are also expected to have upgraded lenses, and there is a possibility of a periscope lens on the largest of them, which should offer a wider range of zoom.
With upgrades will come a price hike. Gurman predicts that while there may be a price increase outside of the US, customers in the US would also have to pay a little more for the Pro models this year. Even though he says there might not be a considerable price increase, rumours have it that the Pro model could cost around $100 more, while the Pro Max could cost as much as $200 compared to last year’s models.
Dynamic Island, 48MP camera, and a new chip for iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus
Apple also has some upgrades for the vanilla models – iPhone 15 and iPhone. The two models are expected to replace the notch with Dynamic Island, but there is still no sight of ProMotion displays for the standard models. While the two are not expected to have the newest 3nm chips, they are likely to come with last year’s A16 Bionic chip.
As highly anticipated, all four iPhone 15 models will transition to USB-C ports, ditching the lightning port. Rumours have it that the Pro models would have faster speeds, while the standard models should be a tad slower compared to the Pro ones.
So far, there have been no rumours of price hike for the standard iPhone 15 models. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are expected to start at $799 and $899, respectively.
Reports have suggested that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to have 48 mp sensors, similar to their Pro siblings. Though, there is no word if the ultrawide sensor will be upgraded.
The iPhone 15 series is expected to be announced in September.
