The Apple analyst took to Twitter and explained why the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro will feature a large camera bump compared to previous generation iPhones. The recently leaked schematics have shown a larger camera bump and an overall thicker design. The primary reason behind these changes is that Apple has major enhancements and improvements to the iPhone 14 Pros camera this year. To recall, Kuo earlier stated that iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will feature an upgraded 48MP camera sensor, which comes in a larger form factor. This was pretty evident from the CAD-based renders exclusively shared by 91mobiles as well.
“The main reason for the larger and more prominent rear-camera bump of the 14 Pro/Pro Max is upgrading the wide camera to 48MP (vs. 13 Pro/Pro Max’s 12MP). The diagonal length of 48MP CIS (contact image sensor) will increase by 25-35 percent, and the height of 48MP’s 7P lens will increase by 5-10 percent,” said Kuo. This is a reason to have a large bump on the back, which in turn should lean the overall weight of the iPhone will also increase substantially.
Leaks about iPhone 14 Pro featuring a 48MP camera first surfaced back in September 2021 and set the expectations really high. Other design changes to the Pro model include a hole + pill-shaped punch design on the front. Though it was initially reported the iPhone 14 lineup will have a titanium finish and round buttons similar to iPhone 4, that may not be the case. At least not this year. There are also reports that Apple will use the new chipset, probably the A16 Bionic, on only the iPhone 14 models and a much more powerful A16 Pro SoC for the two Pro models.
We hope to learn more details about the iPhone 14 series soon.
