Instagram Stories bug that affected iPhone users won’t bug them anymore – Times of India
Some users even thought it was a new feature that Apple was rolling out for iOS 16. Well, that is not the case as Instagram Stories are not supposed to play the audio when the iPhone is on silent mode. This issue was later identified as a bug and Instagram started rolling out a fix to mitigate the problem.
How should Instagram Stories on iOS behave
Typically, when an iPhone user puts their device on silent and starts checking Instagram Stories, the app should mute the Stories by default. If they want to, the users can override that setting and access the audio in the Stories either by tapping the story once (tapping on the story twice can mute it again) or by increasing the sound using the volume rockers.
With this new bug, Instagram Stories started playing audio by default even when the iPhone was on silent mode. After installing the new app update, users will find that Instagram Stories have gone back to their usual behaviour that is mentioned above.
Instagram’s reaction to the bug
According to a report by 9to5Mac, a Meta spokesperson has addressed this issue as an iOS bug and has confirmed that the latest update for the Instagram app will fix the problem. “This issue has been resolved with the latest version of Instagram for iOS – please update to the latest version of the app available in the App Store,” the spokesperson stated. This means that iPhone users who are still facing the Instagram Stories audio issue just need to update their app to get rid of this problem.
Why Instagram users confused the bug as a feature
Instagram Reels play their audio by default, so users thought that Meta wanted Stories to behave in a similar way that Reels did. But, it is important to understand the difference between Instagram Reels and Stories.
All Instagram Reels are videos but Stories may include both videos and images with background audio. Users are expected to play the audio while watching a video but that might not happen when they are checking the images out.
