Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon all citizens to turn the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign into a mass movement by hoisting or displaying the national flag at their homes and using the tricolour as a display picture of their social media accounts, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. In his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’ this Sunday, PM Modi said that as part of the 75th year of Independence a special movement — ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ — is being organised and “by becoming part of this movement, from August 13 to 15, you must hoist the tricolour at your home or adorn your home with it”. “The tricolour connects us, inspires us to do something for the country,” he said and suggested people make the national flag their social media profile photo from August 2 to August 15.
Here we will tell you how you can add the National flag to your Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter DP. We will be doing this in two parts – first, we will tell how to add the Indian flag to your profile picture and second part will be changing the profile picture on different social media platforms.
Part 1: Adding Indian Flag to your profile picture
You can use the Facebook app to add the Indian Flag in your profile picture. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Tap on your Profile Picture and choose Add Frame
  • Then head to the Flags option and choose India from the list. You’ll see an Indian Flag has been added to your existing profile photo.
  • Make the adjustments in case you want and hit the Save button
  • Now, view your Profile Photo → Tap on three dots at the top right corner → tap Save to phone

Now, you have a profile image with the Indian Flag in it. Do note that the download image will have a dimension of around 900 by 900 pixels. So this should be fine for most social media platforms. We have listed the recommended dimensions for the profile pictures for social media platforms:
Profile picture recommended dimensions
Facebook: 170 by 170 pixels
Twitter: 400 by 400 pixels
Instagram: 180 by 180 pixels
WhatsApp: Meta hasn’t disclosed the recommended dimensions for WhatsApp profile picture. However, we recommend you keep it around 500 by 500 pixels.
Alternate method
If you don’t have a Facebook account, then there are several apps and online tools available that allow users to add flags on their image and also resize them as per the social media platform. Some of these are flagmypicture.com, lunapics.com, Flagstickers for picture, Flag Face and more. However, do keep in mind that these are third-party apps and tools. So do check the review ratings carefully before using.
