The image of Virat Kohli speaking into the stump mic went viral minutes after the India captain had finished saying what he had to while on top of the stumps on Day 3 of the third Test in Cape Town.
It’s an image that won’t disappear from social media shelves and the minds of cricket fans for a while. It’s an image that makes the game’s authorities and enthusiasts call for action against the India captain.
While that is for the game’s administrators to take a call on, the fact remains that the Kohli one saw on the field at Newlands on Day 3 was no different to the Kohli one has seen over the decade gone by. What Kohli said about the incident after the Test got over sums it up once again.

“I have no comment to make on it. We understood what happened on the field and people outside didn’t know the exact details of what happened. If we’d have gotten all charged up and picked three wickets, that would’ve been the moment that changed the game,” said the skipper.

“It’s a moment that passed and we’ve moved on from it. We just kept focusing on the game,” he added. Kohli may not be “interested” in this controversy right now, but it is his – and R Ashwin and KL Rahul’s – doing that the incident has snowballed into one.
For the India captain, going by his statement alone, this would’ve been just another winning moment for him and his team had it clicked the right way.
