HIGHLIGHTS

  • India scored 258 for 4 in 84 overs at stumps on Day 1 vs New Zealand
  • Shreyas Iyer (75 not out) and Shubman Gill (52) top-scored for Team India
  • Kyle Jamieson bagged 3 wickets for 47 runs from 15.2 overs on the first day

New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson was pleased with his performance after bagging 3 wickets on Day 1 of the first Test against India on Thursday. The 26-year-old finished with impressive figures of 3 for 47 from his 15.2 overs after the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first at the Green Park Stadium.

Jamieson struck early in the first session with the wicket of opener Mayank Agarwal after which he got rid of half-centurion Shubman Gill and captain Ajinkya Rahane in the second session to dent India.

“Not a huge amount going on. Found some swing early and it was up and down a little bit.

“Hardly played the last couple of months. It was nice to get back onto the park. Hopefully the new ball swings a little bit in the morning and we can get them. India fraction ahead I think. We hung around pretty well. Need a good start in the morning,” Jamieson said after the day’s play.

KANPUR TEST: Day 1 Highlights

India recovered from the four strikes in two sessions and fought back through the fifth-wicket partnership of Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to end up with 258 for 4 at stumps on the first day.

Iyer brought up his maiden Test fifty off 94 balls to become the 30th Indian to hit a half-century on debut in the longest format while Jadeja scored his 17th fifty.

Iyer remained not out on 75 while Jadeja was unbeaten on 50, with the duo adding 113 runs for the fifth wicket before bad light forced the umpire’s to end play 6 overs before the scheduled close.
