NEW DELHI: The Indian women’s hockey team concluded their disappointing tour of Germany with a 0-2 defeat against the home side in their third and final match on Wednesday.
Germany’s Nike Lorenz (52nd minute) and Charlotte Stapenhorst (54th minute) were the goal-scorers in a match that marked India’s third consecutive loss during their tour.
In their previous two outings, the Indian team had suffered defeats against China (2-3) and Germany (1-4). The three-match German tour was a crucial part of the Indian team’s preparations for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games.

During the final match, the Indian team showcased a resilient defence and held the Germans to a 0-0 stalemate until the third quarter. However, the intensity escalated in the fourth quarter when Germany launched a lethal attack, ultimately breaking the deadlock.
Although India earned two penalty corners in the earlier quarters, they couldn’t capitalise on these opportunities. Germany, on the other hand, seized the moment and scored the opening goal from their third penalty corner through Nike Lorenz, who had also scored a double in Tuesday’s match against India.
Charlotte Stapenhorst extended Germany’s lead with a fine field goal, sealing their 2-0 victory over India.
Looking ahead, the Indian women’s hockey team will travel to Terassa to participate in an international tournament commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Hockey Federation.
