ICC World Cup Qualifiers: West Indies ease to consolation win over Oman | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: After failing to qualify for this year’s Cricket World Cup, the West Indies made a strong comeback by securing a convincing seven-wicket victory against Oman in Harare on Wednesday.
Brandon King, the opening batsman, displayed an exceptional performance by scoring a remarkable century (100), while the team’s captain, Shai Hope, remained unbeaten with a notable 63 runs. Their combined efforts enabled the West Indies to effortlessly chase down Oman’s total of 221-9 with a remarkable 10.2 overs to spare.
It is unfortunate that the two-time champions will miss the 50-over World Cup for the first time, as they were eliminated from contention last week following a heavy defeat by Scotland in their opening Super Six match. Due to this, both Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph made their return to the Caribbean to prepare for the upcoming two-Test series against India later this month.
Oman showed resilience as Shoaib Khan scored 50 runs, and wicketkeeper Suraj Kumar added an unbeaten 53, leading their team to recover from a precarious position of 116-6, eventually setting a modest target for the West Indies to defend.
During the match, Romario Shepherd took 3-44, and Kyle Mayers claimed 2-31 in a chaotic innings that included three run-outs, putting the West Indies in a favorable position.
Although the West Indies lost Johnson Charles early in their reply, Brandon King and Keacy Carty effectively stabilized the chase. However, Carty was unfortunately run out for 29.
King’s outstanding performance continued as he completed his second ODI hundred off 102 balls, but he fell shortly after, caught behind off Bilal Khan’s bowling.
Nicholas Pooran’s brisk knock of 19 runs further contributed to the successful chase, as he and Captain Hope guided the West Indies over the finish line, sealing their impressive victory against Oman.
