(Broadry) — Germane Barnes is an architect and designer known for his passionate commitment to addressing environmental issues through his work. This week, Barnes unveiled a recycling-inspired, immersive art exhibit, Create What’s Next. The project highlighted HP’s ink and toner cartridge recycling program, HP Planet Partners, ahead of World Environment Day (June 5).
To date, Planet Partners and consumers around the world have recycled over 1 billion cartridges, the equivalent of diverting the weight of 70,083 orcas of cartridges from entering our landfills.

Barnes actively engages in research and advocacy related to environmental issues. He has written and spoken extensively about the intersection of race, urbanism, and the environment, shedding light on the disproportionate impact of environmental degradation on marginalized communities. Through his work, Barnes challenges the status quo and calls for more inclusive and environmentally responsible approaches to design and planning.
The exhibit aims to inspire action through art, when it comes to innovation, and spur eco-friendly conversations around repurposing materials to reduce waste. According to Guillaume Gerardin, Global Head of HP Print Supplies at HP, “we know that millions of people think about climate change daily and are as concerned as we are. And HP’s cartridge recycling program is one way we are working to make a difference – partnering with companies to provide places where you can return used cartridges that we can recycle into new products – to Create What’s Next.”
