That’s because it appears either Dan Harmon or Justin Roiland watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, the classic anime series. And if they go for it, in the way they always do, this is going to possibly be the most awkward to watch episode ever. And, yes, we’re including that thing from earlier this season when Morty accidentally created space semen.
Episode 7, titled “Gotron Jerrysis Rickvangelion” may look like a simple sendup of the anime world of giant robots, if you’ve never seen Evangelion. But once you hear the voiceover narration with twangy guitars, you’ll realize that they’re definitely going to play on the tropes of the series.
But I swear, AdultSwim, if Morty is indeed “the worst” in this episode (and you know what I mean), you’re really going to be testing your audience’s will to put up with the gross-factor. That said, I know of at least one Rick and Morty fan who’s probably super psyched about this already.
