Dosa is one of the most popular food items in South Indian cuisine. These crispy and paper-thin desi-style crepes are typically served with piping hot sambar and coconut chutney – a combination that defines comfort in the true sense. Dosas can be enjoyed at any time of the day, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This dish is popular not only in South India but also in other parts of the country. You’ll find various eating joints and restaurants selling this South Indian delicacy. While some of us like to relish this dish at a restaurant, others like to make it from scratch at home. They are made from a batter of fermented rice and lentils. However, if you’ve run out of your rice flour stock, fret not. Here we bring you an easy dosa recipe that is made without using rice flour. Yes, you heard us.

Although a classic dosa batter is made with rice and urad dal, you can tweak the recipe as per your choice. In this recipe, there is no rice flour at all. The dosa batter is made using a mix of urad dal, moong dal and masoor dal and still tastes incredible. It doesn’t take much time to prepare and you will get that perfectly crisp dosa every time! Let’s take a look at the recipe: 

Dosa Without Rice Flour Recipe: How To Make Dosa Without Rice Flour 

To make this dosa, we need urad dhuli dal, yellow moong dal, split green moong dal and masoor dal. Wash all the dals nicely and soak them for around 4-5 hours. (You can also soak them overnight) Now, remove the excess water and grind them in a mixer to make a smooth batter. Make sure that the batter is not too runny or thick. Let the batter stand for around 15-20 minutes.

Next, splash some water on a tawa set over medium flame. Spread a little oil on the tawa. In the meanwhile, add salt to the dosa batter and mix well. Pour 2 ladle full of the batter on the tawa and spread it in a circular motion as quickly as possible. Once done, flip and allow it to cook from the other side. Serve hot with coconut chutney and enjoy!
