How the $8 fee may bring Twitter Blue to India – Times of India

It’s official, Twitter users will have to pay $8 to retain their verified tags on Twitter. Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk has announced that Twitter verification is going to be paid. “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit,” declaring “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.” Currently, the blue tick mark that verifies the authenticity of the user on Twitter is free. The blue check mark next to a person’s username on the social media platform means that Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to the person or the company/institution claiming it.
Musk mentions the word ‘Blue’, this likely means that Twitter verification will become a part of Twitter Blue. Twitter Blue is Twitter’s paid subscription service launched last year. “Twitter Blue is a monthly subscription that gives the most engaged people on Twitter exclusive access to premium features. An active Twitter Blue subscription gives you access to premium features like Undo Tweet,” is how the company describes it. It is available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The Twitter Blue paid subscription service is not available anywhere else in the world currently, including India.”

What may bring Twitter Blue to India now
Musk while talking about the pricing said that the price will be adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity. This means that Musk plans to bring Twitter Blue to more countries. Paid blue tick accounts will also see “half as many ads”’ and will get “priority in replies, mentions & search,” according to Musk. He also offered subscribers a paywall bypass from “publishers willing to work with us.”
Increase in the price of Twitter Blue
Twitter Blue subscriptions are currently priced $4.99 per month in the US. At $8, it means an increase of $3 in the pricing.
