Hospitals told to buy meds not covered in essential listJaipur: With the formal launch date (May 1) of free OPD and IPD services across the state nearing, the health department has stepped up efforts to identify problems and resolve them before May 1. The major issue is the availability of medicines, so patients do not buy them from outside.

“If there is a need for medicines other than the essential drug list, the officials can buy the medicine by contacting Rajasthan medical services corporation limited or buying the medicines on rate contract as per the rules. Medicines can also be purchased from the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra as per the requirement,” the officials of medical colleges and health department were told in a meeting, which was headed by health minister Parsadi Lal Meena on Wednesday.

The health minister was addressing the principals, superintendents, and officials concerned in all the medical colleges of the state through video conferencing.

He said when the ‘free medicines scheme’ was launched in 2011, then people had apprehensions about its success. With the cooperation of health officials and staff, this scheme has become an example for the whole country today. He said the trial of the free OPD and IPD scheme is going on now, if the healthcare staffers cooperate wholeheartedly, then the state will once again make a mark in the field of medicine.

He called upon all the health workers, medical, paramedical, and related personnel of the state to become partners in the successful implementation of the scheme.

Under the scheme, the health department will provide IPD, OPD medicines, and tests free of cost in all medical institutions in the state. They will develop such a system at the bedside for the patients admitted with IPD so that patients are not given the prescription of medicine. The patient coming to the OPD should also be prescribed only the medicines available in the institution. He said that if medicines are not available, the needy can be helped by writing alternative medicines.
