Healthcare, IT & ITeS, pharmaceutical, edutech and e-commerce will be the top sectors driving demand for temporary workers with an expected surge of over 35% in employment creation in coming quarters, the Indian Staffing Federation said.

The consortium of staffing firms ISF said it witnesses 31% growth in flexi work in 2021 compared to other formats with 1,57,000 more flexi workers added to the workforce compared ro 2019.

“Women participation in the flexi workforce was higher by 6% during Covid,” ISF said in its annual Flexi Staffing Employment Trends Report, 2021. The report, prepared by ISF, is based on the primary research of over 100 staffing members across the country in a span of 60 days and covers the various dimensions of employment across top 15 sectors.

“While India has been fearlessly battling the impact of the Covid waves there is no denying that temporary staffing stood up against the test of time and helped key sectors to continue their business,” Lohit Bhatia, president of the Indian Staffing Federation said.

“Despite the challenges, the staffing industry not only ended FY 2021 with a modest 3.6% growth over March, 2020 and but also concluded with more than 1.03 million flexi staff across industries,” Bhatia added.

According to the report, employment in IT & ITeS will be driven by digital integration and investment in expedited automation processes as tech firms bet big on campus and entry-level talent especially in the temporary role, thereby driving positive future prospects for freshers.

“Meanwhile, demand for temporary workers in healthcare and pharma will be driven by the preparation for a better response management system for the third wave of Covid and the R&D investment into manufacturing of vaccines and associated OTC drugs,” it added.
