GTB expands gynae facilities, gets new dental service too, Health News, ET HealthWorld
New Delhi: The state government-run Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital expanded its gynaecological services by adding new labour room facilities at the newly constructed mother and child block and opening a new dental care department.
With this new facility, 15 additional labour room beds and two labour tables will be added for delivery. This will help control the overcrowding situation at the old labour room.
“The obstetrics and gynaecology department in GTB hospital is one of the busiest sections of our facility. We are catering to the needs of the trans-Yamuna population and also adjoining Uttar Pardesh. There are approximately 1,800 to 2,000 child deliveries per month, including 500 through cesarean section. With the addition of the facilities, the quality of patient care will improve by reducing the problem of overcrowding,” said medical director of the hospital, Dr Subhash Giri.
The hospital has also added a new facility at the dental department named ‘orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedic’. It has also been made functional now.
Orthodontics is a dental specialty that deals with prevention, interception and correction of malocclusion (that is, irregular teeth and dento-facial deformities), thus creating a pleasing and beautiful smile in people from all ages groups.
There are limited government hospitals and facilities that provide specialised orthodontic treatment, especially in east and northeast Delhi.
“People mostly from the lower and middle socio-economic category have to travel long distances to seek such specialised treatment. Nearby tertiary care institutions like AIIMS or Maulana Azad Institute Of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) are already struggling with a long waiting list of patients. This results in treatment needs being unmet for a huge number of patients in the area,” Dr Giri said.
The new facility of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics has five experienced specialists. A dedicated area for providing these services is equipped with state-of-the-art fully functional dental chairs.
